International Student life in Turkey
Many people around the world seek educational opportunities outside their home countries for various reasons. According to 2020 data, the number of international students worldwide has reached 6,361,963 (UNESCO, 2019, 2020). The internationalization of educational institutions adds prestige to the education system in a given country. Moreover, international students contribute to universities not only in terms of financial resources but also by enhancing campus diversity, broadening global perspectives, and adding value in socio-cultural and academic areas.
For the host country providing international education, these students become cultural ambassadors and can play significant roles in future international interactions. Turkey also hosts students from many countries around the world and is continually increasing its share in this field. In ten years, the number of international students in Turkey has risen from 48,183 to 301,694. In 2022, Turkey ranked among the top 10 countries globally in terms of the number of international students, securing the tenth position in the world and fifth among European countries.
